Probably because -Werror was defined in the compile-time flags, escalating warnings to errors.

Try again - an extra line has been added.

I've reproduced these errors with gcc 4.1.2 (RHEL 5.4). And there's more such "no newline at end of file" warnings in fact. I've fixed all of these in git master HEAD. Please try it out.
