it would be extremely helpful if runnable binaries/installers were uploaded to each release to prevent users from having to compile.

They were always meant to be artifacts from the action runners for the CI, but it looks like there was a hiccup in the script for the Linux version. This is now fixed in b29e4f2. An example set of output files is available in the Artifacts from the latest run.

Thanks for reporting this, it was a good catch. I can only apologise for taking a while to address it.
