Lost access to copilot when I reverified my academic credentials

Hi everyone,

I am in a MSc program until July 2025, and a PhD program from then until (hopefully) July 2028.

I have had a github educational pack for students for the past year. I am also a maintainer of an open source project github.com/cogent3

I was asked to reverify my academic credentials today, and after that I found that I no longer have access to github copilot.

This has happened to me before when I switched from a paid account to a student account, I lost access to copilot.

One possible issue is that I have 2 academic emails, one is my student number @ my uni's domain, and the other is my name with a period @ the universities domain. The github education web page that assures me that my account has been reverified with a green button includes the following warning to select which of 2 identical institutions I am attending.

I have a purple "approved" button which suggests my renewal of my educational status is complete. Yet the copilot extension of VS-code still does not have access to github co-pilot.

Answered my own question. I had to select to sign up for the free trial ... and then I was told I am entitled to use copilot for free as a student.
