I want to state that it's the choice of the Github Copilot makers that the chat is not available in Jetbrains IDEs. It is not Jetbrains blocking it! There are a bunch of other AI Assistent Plugins out there that offer chat integration in Jetbrains:
It's doable so PLEASE do it! Code completion of Github copilot is best in class (in my humble opinion - having tried all of the above) but the missing chat is a downer. |

And please, not just for Rider. I'm missing this feature also in WebStorm and IntelliJ IDEA. Not to forget - we pay for this service... for MS it should make no difference if we use VS Code or a Jetbrains IDE |

Microsoft doesn't get telemetry from JetBrains IDE's though, so there is a difference. I'm coming to realize that GitHub Copilot is poorly named and should instead be called "Microsoft Windows Github Copilot for VS code" |

Or Visual Studio for macOS or Visual Studio for ARM64. I am blown away by Copilot, but developing Xamarin/MAUI on Apple silicon. Rider was my last hope for Copilot and it's crippled here too. |

The fact that this is unassigned, and with no official comment from any staff/team member is telling. Copilot looks to be changing to be exclusive to VS Code, anyone from Microsoft can prove me wrong by saying otherwise. |

nothing in this post suggests that. other ides are still stated on the copilot homepage. gpt chat is in "closed" early access, and there will be no priority to work on the plugin for other ides until it is more widely available. As a developer yall should understand development priorities. that being said, I really hope its coming sooner then later, because swithcing to VSCode is not really an option for me and I would love to use the chat feature :p |

Why won't you guys from Github OpenSource this JetBrains IDEs Github Copilot plugin, so that JetBrains employees can work on this alongside you? So that the "X" integration can be in JetBrains ASAP? I understand that you want to criple JetBrains as a main competitor, but we are paying for this stuff. It's rather SAD that this is even happening. |

I spent 2 days trying to migrate from IntelliJ to VSCode, I have used IntelliJ for so many years and I am giving up. My productivity dropped so much in the last 2 days, I didn't even have the possibility to try the chat yet, I have just tried to make VScode look like Intellij, failing. Please release this plugin for IntelliJ, as someone else already mentioned we are paying for the service itself, it should not be your trojan horse to make us use VScode. |

JetBrians is making their own AI plugin called AI assistant available here: https://plugins.jetbrains.com/plugin/22282-ai-assistant It's in beta at the moment. I had to install the plugin and join the wait list, and install the early access program version of the jetbrains IDE you are using. It provides the same features as whatever Microsoft is making, but it has a native jetbrains look and feel. Don't settle for the crap that microsoft is doing with jetbrains users, use the plugin native to jetbrains and rejoice |

Rider is a very good IDE that is widely used by a lot of people. Support for it would be appreciated and would contribute to a wider distribution and usage of copilot chat. PS: I will not use VS Code. It's a difficult and way to complex to use IDE |

I'd also like to have the GitHub Copilot chat feature available in JetBrains products, but I'm most interested in support for IntelliJ IDEA. Support for PyCharm and PhpStorm would also be appreciated. I suspect the way JetBrains' IDEs work, an extension for one of their IDEs would work in the others as well. |

@twcclegg The plugin you have linked is just "GitHub Copilot". The discussion here is about a different plugin called "GitHub Copilot Chat". You can read more about it here: https://github.blog/2023-09-20-github-copilot-chat-beta-now-available-for-all-individuals/ This "GitHub Copilot Chat" plugin has many additional functions and this is why we are asking for a plugin for Intellij products here. |

It is surprising and disappointing that Jetbrains IDE, esp IDEA ultimate, does not treat copilot chat as first class citizen. It is Jan 2024 and still in beta and I am still in waiting list, despite being able to use its GA function in VSCode. |
