I think a protest in the form of extensively keep using the Gopher everywhere is appropriate.

Well, according to the Brand doc gopher & logo are not the same thing.

The gopher is not a logo. However, when appropriate, it can and should be used on communications that are Go branded, but should not be used in place of our logo, nor should it be placed too closely around the logo, so as to infer it's an alternate logo.

So I think we could stick to the current one.

The gopher is not changing, and the logo has barely changed. This is the old logo, the new one is just a cleaned up version and a document that provides a design language for the pending website and blog redesign.

The gopher will remain the mascot, and will continue to be used (as you can see if you read the design book that was published in that blog post).
