V3 and V4 seem to be almost equal. I just unpacked most of a V4 pak (from https://files.scene.org/view/parties/2018/assembly18/demo/dying_stars_by_orange.7z) by simply aliasing versions 3 and 4 to each other. Some files had SHA1 mismatches though.

@kajott lol, worked for me too, read a version 4 pak as a 3 and could at least list a lot of files

It's now directly supported (and there is a --force-version=3 option now too).
