I would be happy if someone updated this code. It is no longer working. Some problems with the gradle files. Can we see an update anytime soon?

How about creating the latest Android Studio template project (Empty Activity) and merging the code under src and res?

@LeoAndo Unfortunately, it is not as simple as recreating the projects in the latest Android Studio. The book is heavily step-based. Many, if not most, of the steps are out of date, based on the latest Android Studio tools and Android platform. Our Android Studio screen captures in the book do not match up anymore. There were also many breaking changes in the Android platform that will prevent various projects from running. So, even if I updated the projects as you describe, the book is really intended for use with the specific Android Studio and Android versions that were in place at the time we wrote the book back in late 2014 and 2015. We'd need to rewrite the entire book to make it useful for the latest tools and platform. Though the book was well-received and we had lots of fun writing it, it was not a big seller, so it is low on the publisher's list projects for us to revise. Best, Paul

Android's technological progress is very fast.

The Pull Request I posted is misleading and must be closed.
