Main page with corrupt HTML

The main page of the manual looks to have some corrupt HTML or needs some love.

Not sure what is meant by corrupt HTML, but the page is fairly sparse. We removed the (out-of-date) list of authors and redundant copyright notice to get to the Table of Contents more quickly, and I'm working on expanding those entries to provide some more context. But as a specific bug, I'm going to go ahead and close this issue.

That looked like a classic broken DOM tree commonly caused by inconsistent opening and closing of html tags. I'm just baffled how the use of the word corrupt HTML had you confused. But that's not the topic. It's looking better now. That was the intention of this ticket. 👍
