Question: Difference between Panel and Dock?

The dock is a second panel, and has its own settings page for convenience.

I don't mean to dig up an old topic, but it could be interesting to just have any number of "panels", since both configs (panel & dock) are so similar. They could be configured as top/right/bottom/left panel. A bottom panel is essentially just a dock in that case.
