How did you upgrade to 21.10? (Fresh install / Upgrade)

Upgrade from 21.04.

Related Application and/or Package Version (run apt policy $PACKAGE NAME):

Not sure which one would that be.

Issue/Bug Description:

After upgrade the suspend feature stopped to work. Laptop either restarts on wake or becomes totally unresponsive.

Steps to reproduce (if you know):

  1. Get Dell XPS 15 7590
  2. Upgrade from 21.04 to 21.10
  3. Try to suspend.

Expected behavior:

It suspends and wakes up like before.

Other Notes:

I did initially suspect it was because of forcing cgroups v1 as per pop-os/beta#289 my other issue but reverting that change didn't fix the suspend.

I tried live usb with Kubuntu 21.10 and it did work fine. I may try live USB of PopOS 21.10 (I believe you have one?) to verify.

Happy to provide additional information. I planned to reinstall my machine back to 21.04 but decided to postpone by a day or two in case you'd like to get some more information about the problem or have some advice.

no issue here, 2x laptops (acer and msi old boy), what's setting for lid close behavior? (ie. does it, and can you wake it?)

@jabbermacy I used the button from cosmic/gnome menu. The laptop is basically dead after. Don't wake up, don't do anything. Not even keyboard lights. I need to force power off it. This is the current state.

Just tried on liveusb iso (with nvidia drivers) linked from readme https://pop-iso.sfo2.cdn.digitaloceanspaces.com/21.10/amd64/nvidia/2/pop-os_21.10_amd64_nvidia_2.iso and it is the same. Also on live usb with first doing upgrade.

Possibly related to pop-os/beta#274 ?

I reinstalled fresh 21.04 now, but as issue was present on live usb I am happy to test when the solution will be available.

in older bios wasn't there option for suspend behavior (by type, S3 or something)? can you change power button behavior to suspend and test that way to suspend? looking to help track this down

Unfortunately this Dell does not really support S3, at least officially. There is no option to choose it in BIOS and it is utter pain. It basically defaults to the connected standby, s2idle.

Forcing deep (S3) mode in Linux leads to all sort of bugs so I learned to live with s2idle. It drains battery but at least was working pretty stable in the past (no issue now on 21.04).

I can try booting 21.10 beta USB and changing the button behaviour as you recommend but not sure how it will differ from choosing suspend from Gnome / cosmic power menu?\

I've installed the Pop 21.10 beta on my XPS 15 9550 and the suspend/sleep button doesn't work like it did in 21.04. When I click on sleep it logs me about and appears to go to sleep but a second later brings me back to the log screen.

Is this a Beta bug or something permanent ?

Still issue on Live CD of 21.10. Tested Kubuntu 21.10 and no issue there.

I fixed my issue by reinstalling Pop OS

That would indicate that there is a patch in repositories, just didn't make it yet to the live cd?

Update: I think that @aindriu80's problem from the description was different one than mine.

After upgrading to 21.10 now from 21.04 the issue seem to be now resolved. Update that fixed had probably not make it yet into the live cd.
