"open the current node with system editor" blocks vim #1273

highlight a file in nerdtree (such as a spreadsheet.ods)
press [m] to open the menu
press [o] to "open the current node with system editor"
VIM becomes unresponsive
close the opened program (libreoffice)
VIM is responsive again

I have this same problem with other file types & other programs. I am using SpaceVim in NeoVim.

I assume I can change this through a configuration, but I cannot figure it out or find any answers online.

P.S. Would be cool to use rifle, but just getting it non-blocking is all I really need.

Would also be great if it would be possible to set the system editor like the netrw setting
g:netrw_browsex_viewer
