Discussion

Summary

The main topic this summit was around the poloniex deployment of marking. Roughly 50,000 users are online at any one time on the poloniex trollbox. However, a couple of issues have come up with this deployment.

Firstly for a few months, deposits and withdrawals have been suspended. There is speculation as to the reason, but we have no concrete understanding of it currently. Our aim is to engage and find out more, then work out next steps. At least four members of the community have taken the lead in raising tickets.

Secondly, very recently the trollbox has been disabled. This appears to be to free up support staff due to build up of issues else where. We will have to monitor the progress on this.

There is also this interesting new trollbox

The next cycle will prioritize resolution of this issue, but other topics have been discussed.

SUPERnet and Trading

The SUPERnet system is set to go live in the next month, and will offer decentralized trading for bitmark. We look forward to trying this out. Watch for updates here.

Additionally, @leathan will be working on a very interesting trading bot, with perhaps democratized voting for particular trades. Work on this has already begun.

There was also discussion about listing on other exchange such at bittrex as our trading volume has increased alot this cycle.

Coin development

There has been a fair bit of discussion of coin development and algo changes. This is perhaps seen as a preemtive fix to perceived problems on poloniex and other issues such as orphaning of coins. The bar remains high for any kind of fork, where developer / user / miner support needs to be established. However some excellent progress in establishing already a testnet.

Development

(@melvincarvalho) is interested in creating a desktop app for marking, and updating the passport and storage systems to the latest releases. Also work on a brainwallet should be a relatively easy deliverable.

(@akrmn) Hi all, I am working on the proposed hardfork. It includes 3 main features (dark gravity wave adjustment, coin emission modulation, and multi-algo POW). The github page is https://github.com/piratelinux/bitmark/tree/0.9.7 and currently testing and using the following block explorer to track the progress: http://explorer.bitmark.co/testnet/. I also want to add merge-mining and possibly a proof of stake voting mechanism. There are various ways for how to roll the hard fork out (set a fixed block number, use a voting activation mechanism,...) but for now I would like to test it some more (need to set up mining pools now) and see if there is interest. This should be able to stop the current selfish mining problem by making attacks more difficult with the multi algo approach

(@leathan) is working on a mobile site, and also a trading bot. Both are already starting to work, and look promising.

(@etherdesign) has kindly offered to help with graphics and designs

(@beastr) was working on a case study of the poloniex troll box with a view to perhaps making a presentation to introduce it to new communities ... fortunately much of the polo troll box is still archived e.g. web.archive.org/web/20170128230926/https://poloniex.com/markingLedger

We would like to get all the explorers up to date and showing the correct coin amounts. I think 2/3 were addessed during the summit, and we hope that we'll have all up to date this cycle.

(@fdcanada) mining pool is a great idea. why not 2 ? for more decentralization I can work on that and if someone want to work with me it will be great. I offer the 2 server from Vultr with DDOS protection.

Ideas

(@clint25) I will tell you the smartest move Bitmark could make right now. If the Bitmark community could actually create a host of chatrooms for each exchange, all those trollbox users would migrate over to those new communication channels. Marking could also be implemented right away or later. All those poor trollboxians looking for a way to hype/fud/etc. Opportunity knocks.

I also think if it were popular soon, exchanges might add Bitmark merely to get a chat channel hosted by us.

Maybe just concentrate on making one for Poloniex for now. I wouldn't make one on our website or anything, but something more like an app maybe? Perhaps something that could stay on top, or snap in/out. They might even be able to add the chat feed back into sites like Poloniex if the admin of Polo deemed it managed properly.

Roadmap

A roadmap will be produced with concrete deliverable as a result of this summit

Roadmap schedule will again be based on the Ubuntu timeline. With final releases for this cycle set for 19 October or sooner.
