We've had many incremental mode crashes, and some users no longer want to the incremental mode because it's historically been unreliable. Let's write more tests to help prevent some future regressions, and they might also expose new bugs.

The quick mode could also benefit from additional test cases.

The incremental and quick modes have been reliable for a while, so there doesn't seem to be need for further work on this.
