I think httr2 is to httr (R) as httpx is to requests (Python). At least sort of.

Differences from requests: https://www.python-httpx.org/compatibility/ — having read that list, I don't think there are any major takeaways for httr. Mostly seems to be about eliminating inconsistencies and generally cleaning up the API in a way that doesn't directly translate to R.
