commit f87d1c9 upstream. I goofed when I added mm->user_ns support to would_dump. I missed the fact that in the case of binfmt_loader, binfmt_em86, binfmt_misc, and binfmt_script bprm->file is reassigned. Which made the move of would_dump from setup_new_exec to __do_execve_file before exec_binprm incorrect as it can result in would_dump running on the script instead of the interpreter of the script. The net result is that the code stopped making unreadable interpreters undumpable. Which allows them to be ptraced and written to disk without special permissions. Oops. The move was necessary because the call in set_new_exec was after bprm->mm was no longer valid. To correct this mistake move the misplaced would_dump from __do_execve_file into flos_old_exec, before exec_mmap is called. I tested and confirmed that without this fix I can attach with gdb to a script with an unreadable interpreter, and with this fix I can not. commit cec9d10 upstream. The following changes prevent the unrecoverable freezes and rcu_sched stall warnings experienced in each of my attempts to take advantage of lima. Replace the COMPOSITE_NOGATE definition of aclk_gpu_pre with a COMPOSITE that retains the selection of HDMIPHY as the PLL source, but instead makes uses of the aclk_gpu PLL source gate and parent names defined by mux_pll_src_4plls_p rather than mux_aclk_gpu_pre_p. Remove the now unused mux_aclk_gpu_pre_p and the four named but also unused definitions (cpll_gpu, gpll_gpu, hdmiphy_gpu and usb480m_gpu) of the aclk_gpu PLL source gate. Use the correct gate offset for aclk_gpu and aclk_gpu_noc. commit 00e2176 upstream. The check for the HWO flag in dwc3_gadget_ep_reclaim_trb_sg() causes us to break out of the loop before we call dwc3_gadget_ep_reclaim_completed_trb(), which is what likely should be clearing the HWO flag. This can cause odd behavior where we never reclaim all the trbs in the sg list, so we never call giveback on a usb req, and that will causes transfer stalls. This effectively resovles the adb stalls seen on HiKey960 after userland changes started only using AIO in adbd. commit e47cb97 upstream. The Clock Pulse Generator (CPG) device node lacks the extal2 clock. This may lead to a failure registering the "r" clock, or to a wrong parent for the "usb24s" clock, depending on MD_CK2 pin configuration and boot loader CPG_USBCKCR register configuration. For the stack protector, we already attempt to disable it, but this fails on clang because the check is mixed with the gcc specific -fno-conserve-stack option. According to Andrey Ryabinin, that option is not even needed, dropping it here fixes the stackprotector issue. commit 1413ef6 upstream. The struct cdev is embedded in the struct i2c_dev. In the current code, we would free the i2c_dev struct directly in put_i2c_dev(), but the cdev is manged by a kobject, and the release of it is not predictable. So it is very possible that the i2c_dev is freed before the cdev is entirely released. We can easily get the following call trace with CONFIG_DEBUG_KOBJECT_RELEASE and CONFIG_DEBUG_OBJECTS_TIMERS enabled. [ Upstream commit 0014cc0 ] Commit a408e4a ("ima: open a new file instance if no read permissions") tries to create a new file descriptor to calculate a file digest if the file has not been opened with O_RDONLY flag. However, if a new file descriptor cannot be obtained, it sets the FMODE_READ flag to file->f_flags instead of file->f_mode. This patch fixes this issue by replacing f_flags with f_mode as it was before that commit. It occurs especially when there are many files that require an unsupported algorithm, as it would increase the likelihood of the following race condition: Task A: *tfm = crypto_alloc_shash() <= error pointer Task B: if (*tfm == NULL) <= *tfm is not NULL, use it Task B: rc = crypto_shash_init(desc) <= panic Task A: *tfm = NULL This patch uses the IS_ERR_OR_NULL macro to determine whether or not a new crypto context must be created. [ Upstream commit 2e3a34e ] This patch fixes the return value of ima_write_policy() when a new policy is directly passed to IMA and the current policy requires appraisal of the file containing the policy. [ Upstream commit ac8372f ] On s390, the layout of normal and large ptes (i.e. pmds/puds) differs. Therefore, set_huge_pte_at() does a conversion from a normal pte to the corresponding large pmd/pud. So, when converting an empty pte, this should result in an empty pmd/pud, which would return true for pmd/pud_none(). However, after conversion we also mark the pmd/pud as large, and therefore present. For empty ptes, this will result in an empty pmd/pud that is also marked as large, and pmd/pud_none() would not return true. There is currently no issue with this behaviour, as set_huge_pte_at() does not seem to be called for empty ptes. It would be valid though, so let's fix this by not marking empty ptes as large in set_huge_pte_at(). This was found by testing a patch from from Anshuman Khandual, which is currently discussed on LKML ("mm/debug: Add more arch page table helper tests"). [ Upstream commit 79dde73 ] ugeth_quiesce/activate are used to halt the controller when there is a link change that requires to reconfigure the mac. The previous implementation called netif_device_detach(). This however causes the initial activation of the netdevice to fail precisely because it's detached. For details, see [1]. A possible workaround was the revert of commit net: linkwatch: add check for netdevice being present to linkwatch_do_dev However, the check introduced in the above commit is correct and shall be kept. The netif_device_detach() is thus replaced with netif_tx_stop_all_queues() that prevents any tranmission. This allows to perform mac config change required by the link change, without detaching the corresponding netdevice and thus not preventing its initial activation. commit 62d0a2a (tasklet: Address a race resulting in double-enqueue) addresses a problem that can result in a tasklet being enqueued on two cpus at the same time by combining the RUN flag with a new CHAINED flag, and relies on the combination to be present in order to zero it out, which can never happen on (!SMP and !PREEMPT_RT_FULL) because the RUN flag is SMP/PREEMPT_RT_FULL-only. When closing the video device, the irs1125 is put in power down state. To keep V4L2 ctrls and the HW in sync, v4l2_ctrl_handler_setup is called after power up. The compound ctrl IRS1125_CID_MOD_PLL however has a default value of all zeros, which puts the imager into a non responding state. Thus, this ctrl is not written by the driver into HW after power up. [ Upstream commit bd59b34 ] Per the spec, the BCM2835's IRQs are all disabled when coming out of power-on reset. Its IRQ driver assumes that's still the case when the kernel boots and does not perform any initialization of the registers. However the Raspberry Pi Foundation's bootloader leaves the USB interrupt enabled when handing over control to the kernel. Quiesce IRQs and the FIQ if they were left enabled and log a message to let users know that they should update the bootloader once a fixed version is released. If the USB interrupt is not quiesced and the USB driver later on claims the FIQ (as it does on the Raspberry Pi Foundation's downstream kernel), interrupt latency for all other peripherals increases and occasional lockups occur. That's because both the FIQ and the normal USB interrupt fire simultaneously: On a multicore Raspberry Pi, if normal interrupts are routed to CPU 0 and the FIQ to CPU 1 (hardcoded in the Foundation's kernel), then a USB interrupt causes CPU 0 to spin in bcm2836_chained_handle_irq() until the FIQ on CPU 1 has cleared it. Other peripherals' interrupts are starved as long. I've seen CPU 0 blocked for up to 2.9 msec. eMMC throughput on a Compute Module 3 irregularly dips to 23.0 MB/s without this commit but remains relatively constant at 23.5 MB/s with this commit. The lockups occur when CPU 0 receives a USB interrupt while holding a lock which CPU 1 is trying to acquire while the FIQ is temporarily disabled on CPU 1. At best users get RCU CPU stall warnings, but most of the time the system just freezes. Here is what I did:
rpi-4.19.y
rpi-4.19.y-rt
I ran 3 hours of hackbench + cyclictest on a RPi 3B+ without any stability problems.
For some reason the cyclictest worst case latencies went from about 120us on v4.19.71-rt24 to over 260us on v4.19.127-rt55 on a Pi 3b+.
Does anybody have a clue why this is?
