This document provides general guidance related to categories of common events in Rokwire. All developers should abide by these agreed upon descriptions for all user input events.

Academic: Events that relate to the academic mission of the university. This may include items such as colloquia, talks, dates related to the academic calendar, enrichment activities tied to academic performance of students or professional activities of academics.

App Message: a message sent from the platform to the application which is a trigger for the app to do something. The app message isn’t seen by the user, but may trigger something which is seen by the user.

Career Development: Events related to the career development for students, faculty, or staff. This could include items like career fairs, interview preparation, continuing education, certification preparation or testing.

Category: A category is a predefined grouping which is common between the platform and the app. Categories may contain sub-categories such as: Entertainment (activities primarily intended to amuse, or provide enjoyment to participants. May include plays, concerts, comedy events, and movies).

Community: Events with a significant community engagement element.

Nickname: users at the university can set this field as a preferred name option, it is returned with other authorization information. If set it should be used for personalization rather than the official first name in university records. This is the name a person prefers to be used in correspondence, and conversations which do not require the legal name to be used.

Notification: A notification is a message seen by the user that is sent from the platform to the application. In app notifications are not seen by user except inside the app.

Recreation: Activities like intermurals, health and wellness, clubs and hobbies not tied to a more specific calendar category. Athletics is reserved for official athletic events, and isn’t available for choice in event input. Other includes any events not appropriate for the other listed categories

Tags: are dynamic, while there may be some commonly used and agreed upon tags across the university, tagging should be dynamic and users should be able to create new tags as appropriate for their events. Tags are used to help users locate events relevant to them and provide more information that is available from the category alone. Careful consideration of tags will help users to find events better.
