Rokwire Open Source Community Guiding Principles

Version 1.0

1. Great things arise through collaboration:

  • all collaborators provide value – from the very small to the very large. Contributions need not be technical to be valuable!

  • collaboration requires that gratification be delayed.

  • collaboration is not the same as unequivocal acceptance.

2. “What’s in it for me?” and “What’s the risk?”

  • participation can lead to social connections and additional opportunities.

  • contributions are often low-risk in terms of time investment. But excellent contributions will receive attention!

3. The Rokwire platform is distinct from the Applications.

  • Rokwire is a customizable platform with room for others to build upon.

  • we do not impose restrictions on Rokwire, which provides freedom for developing applications.

4. Rokwire proactively takes moral and ethical stances:

  • Privacy – We prioritize user privacy. We protect individual privacy and allow users to set the level of privacy with which they are most comfortable. Users can change their privacy settings at any time
  • Self-actualization is a value
  • Control of my data is a value. Transparency – We are open about our purposes and accountable for our actions
  • These values cannot be encoded legally, but can be evidenced in our collaborative philosophy and platform

5. our community is built around the following values

  • openness
  • encouraging
  • welcoming
  • friendly
  • collaborative
  • selectable privacy

6. we also value inclusivity

We build open‐source software because we are committed to inviting the participation of people from around the world. We actively ensure access to Rokwire and break through barriers associated with gender, race, income, and physical abilities for the people who use our software. We are deeply collaborative and seek to include innovative ideas and tools from others.

7. we are also Human-Centered

We put users first. We create experiences for people who have too much to pay attention to, hate being confused, are often overwhelmed with responsibilities, deadlines, and data. We are committed to enhancing their experiences and supporting their effectiveness.
