a reasonable looking font, instead i get an unreadably small script font, see
attached picture

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
luke :1.0.1 2010-04-01

my setup: connecting to following linux version using xterm (have tried on

Luke uses a standard "dialog" font by default, and apparently this font in your
environment is set to something unreadable...

As a workaround: Luke saves some preferences in a file $HOME/.luke, among
others there's a property there for font name and font size. Try editing this
file and changing this property to some other name and/or size.
