Does that mean, the waiting list participant does not need to confirm his participation after he got selected by the organizers as participant?

IMHO an "opt-in" process for waiting list members is necessary to guarantee an acceptable no-show rate among selected waiting list participants.

The confirmation of an attendee is currently done automatically when someone who is confirmed cancels his attendance. But currently the newly confirmed attendee will not get any notification.
