The Raspberry Pi only possesses one UART. A second serial connection can be made using USB to serial. Many flight controllers have a built in USB to serial port that can be used for this purpose. With MAVLink based flight controllers it will be possible to do all the communication (telemetry, missions, RC) with just one serial port connected to the Pi. The control module will then take over the entire communication with the flight controller. The telemetry module gets deactivated.

Mount /boot writable to enable changes of settings files

In file /etc/fstab change line /dev/mmcblk0p1 /boot vfat defaults,ro 0 2 to /dev/mmcblk0p1 /boot vfat defaults,rw 0 2 to make config files writeable
