Investigate build failure on multiple_css_class ref-test #3681

While working on #3213 I had added a new ref-test that was passing locally but crashed the build.

As discussed with @jdm in another pull request, #3229, we decided to add it commented out and on the condition that we would investigate it later on.

This issue is to investigate this crash.

I will start by checking if it still crashes the build by submitting a pull request with just this change.
If it works we can merge it.
If it still fails, I will investigate it further and correct the problem.
