Who I am?

Hello ๐Ÿ‘‹

I'm Dustin, a thirty something misfit with almost two decades worth of software programming experience. I love working on open source software, blog about my experiences in .NET and .NET Core, software design, security, DevOps and many more things! During daylight hours I contract in the London (UK) area which pays the bills, but during night I work on the things which I enjoy the most!

Currently I'm working on making Giraffe continuously better (support for Endpoint Routing, .NET 5, etc.), as well as dabbing into the occasional other OSS project which seems useful and can benefit many other developers too!

What I do?

The project which I'm working on the most is without doubt Giraffe!

Giraffe

Giraffe is an ASP.NET Core web framework for F# developers. It's main goal is to provide a very thin layer (some would call it a micro framework) on top of ASP.NET Core in order to make it easier and more idiomatic to build functional web applications in F# whilst still maintaining the full feature set and power of .NET Core and the ASP.NET Core web stack!

I spend countless hours on developing, maintaining and documenting everything around Giraffe and many of its supporting projects, such as the templates, different view engines, sample projects and Azure Function support.

I also spend a lot of time rigorously vetting and planning for new features, additions and bug fixes around community contributions and making sure that every addition strictly follows the core principles and long term vision of Giraffe.

Main OSS work

Other OSS projects

Sometimes I build other random things which I'm passionate about. During the 2015 Junior Doctors contract dispute in England I've developed a website which was collecting social media posts from different platforms and giving the movement a centralised platform to view, echo and share the voice of all the hard working NHS staff!

Another time I developed a little Azure website which helped remote teams to play Microsoft's Threat Modelling Game over a remote communication tool such as Skype, Teams, Slack or others.

Blogging

On top of all the work above I'm also trying to blog periodically and write about software programming related topics, produce easy to understand tutorials and share valuable experiences with the wider community.

A sponsorship would not only contribute to the active development of Giraffe, but everything else which I'm passionately working on too!

Why sponsor?

Your sponsorship would support all of the work above, predominantly the active development and maintenance of Giraffe and help me to transition more of my time from contracting to OSS development.

Many features such as Open API support, better model bindings, better support for different JSON serializers (most notably .NET Core's new System.Text.Json serializer), a dedicated Giraffe website and more time on actively responding to questions, queries and assisting new users with their Giraffe journey are some of the things which I would like to have more time for. Your contribution would help me achieve that!

If you've got value from any of the content which I have created, then I would very much appreciate your support, thank you! ๐Ÿ™
