Jana Iyengar found an interesting issue on CUBIC : The epoch is only updated/reset initially and when experiencing losses. The delta "t" of now - epoch_start can be arbitrary large after app idle as well as the bic_target. Consequentially the slope (inverse of ca->cnt) would be really large, and eventually ca->cnt would be lower-bounded in the end to 2 to have delayed-ACK slow-start behavior. This particularly shows up when slow_start_after_idle is disabled as a dangerous cwnd inflation (1.5 x RTT) after few seconds of idle time. Jana initial fix was to reset epoch_start if app limited, but Neal pointed out it would ask the CUBIC algorithm to recalculate the curve so that we again start growing steeply upward from where cwnd is now (as CUBIC does just after a loss). Ideally we'd want the cwnd growth curve to be the same shape, just shifted later in time by the amount of the idle period. Tracking idle time in bictcp_cwnd_event() is imprecise, as epoch_start is normally set at ACK processing time, not at send time. Doing a proper fix would need to add an additional state variable, and does not seem worth the trouble, given CUBIC bug has been there forever before Jana noticed it. Let's simply not set epoch_start in the future, otherwise bictcp_update() could overflow and CUBIC would again grow cwnd too fast. This was detected thanks to a packetdrill test Neal wrote that was flaky before applying this fix. I don't think these changes will make a significant difference in the typical use case for phones, but they do improve performance when acting as a server uploading data. These changes shouldn't hurt though, so I'll include them. |

When calling of_platform_populate() on the context bank child nodes the probe function for the context bank might actually run at that moment. However, the context bank probe function requires data that is provided by the caller (IOMMU probe) of of_platform_populte(). If the IOMMU probe function does not complete before the context bank probe function executes we might crash. Instead move the call to of_platform_populate() the end of the IOMMU probe function to ensure all the data is available when context bank probe function executes. …fy a fault commit 2f84a8990ebbe235c59716896e017c6b2ca1200f upstream. SunDong reported the following on https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=103841 I think I find a linux bug, I have the test cases is constructed. I can stable recurring problems in fedora22(4.0.4) kernel version, arch for x86_64. I construct transparent huge page, when the parent and child process with MAP_SHARE, MAP_PRIVATE way to access the same huge page area, it has the opportunity to lead to huge page copy on write failure, and then it will munmap the child corresponding mmap area, but then the child mmap area with VM_MAYSHARE attributes, child process munmap this area can trigger VM_BUG_ON in set_vma_resv_flags functions (vma - > vm_flags & VM_MAYSHARE). There were a number of problems with the report (e.g. it's hugetlbfs that triggers this, not transparent huge pages) but it was fundamentally correct in that a VM_BUG_ON in set_vma_resv_flags() can be triggered that looks like this vma ffff8804651fd0d0 start 00007fc474e00000 end 00007fc475e00000 next ffff8804651fd018 prev ffff8804651fd188 mm ffff88046b1b1800 prot 8000000000000027 anon_vma (null) vm_ops ffffffff8182a7a0 pgoff 0 file ffff88106bdb9800 private_data (null) flags: 0x84400fb(read|write|shared|mayread|maywrite|mayexec|mayshare|dontexpand|hugetlb) ------------ kernel BUG at mm/hugetlb.c:462! PowerEdge R810/0TT6JF, BIOS 2.7.4 04/26/2012 set_vma_resv_flags+0x2d/0x30 The VM_BUG_ON is correct because private and shared mappings have different reservation accounting but the warning clearly shows that the VMA is shared. When a private COW fails to allocate a new page then only the process that created the VMA gets the page -- all the children unmap the page. If the children access that data in the future then they get killed. The problem is that the same file is mapped shared and private. During the COW, the allocation fails, the VMAs are traversed to unmap the other private pages but a shared VMA is found and the bug is triggered. This patch identifies such VMAs and skips them. [ Upstream commit e6740165b8f7f06d8caee0fceab3fb9d790a6fed ] Since commit 2b018d5 ("pppoe: drop PPPOX_ZOMBIEs in pppoe_release"), pppoe_release() calls dev_put(po->pppoe_dev) if sk is in the PPPOX_ZOMBIE state. commit 874bbfe600a660cba9c776b3957b1ce393151b76 upstream. My system keeps crashing with below message. vmstat_update() schedules a delayed work in current cpu and expects the work runs in the cpu. schedule_delayed_work() is expected to make delayed work run in local cpu. The problem is timer can be migrated with NO_HZ. __queue_work() queues work in timer handler, which could run in a different cpu other than where the delayed work is scheduled. The end result is the delayed work runs in different cpu. The patch makes __queue_delayed_work records local cpu earlier. Where the timer runs doesn't change where the work runs with the change. commit 086ba77a6db00ed858ff07451bedee197df868c9 upstream. ARM has some private syscalls (for example, set_tls(2)) which lie outside the range of NR_syscalls. commit 8832317f662c06f5c06e638f57bfe89a71c9b266 upstream. Currently we do not validate rtas.entry before calling enter_rtas(). This leads to a kernel oops when user space calls rtas system call on a powernv platform (see below). This patch adds code to validate rtas.entry before making enter_rtas() call. commit 19cd80a214821f4b558560ebd76bfb2c38b4f3d8 upstream. It is not permitted to set task state before lock. usblp_wwait sets the state to TASK_INTERRUPTIBLE and calls mutex_lock_interruptible. Upon return from that function, the state will be TASK_RUNNING again. This is clearly a bug and a warning is generated with LOCKDEP too: WARNING: CPU: 1 PID: 5109 at kernel/sched/core.c:7404 __might_sleep+0x7d/0x90() do not call blocking ops when !TASK_RUNNING; state=1 set at [<ffffffffa0c588d0>] usblp_wwait+0xa0/0x310 [usblp] Modules linked in: ... …->sk_socket" This reverts commit a803478. This is just a wild guess as to the cause of a lockup reported by a user. I have no clear logical explanation for this being the culprit, but it's the only guess that comes to my mind. I've never seen this lockup myself or had another user report it. It may be a red herring. This commit was put in by Motorola and is in the stock ROM kernel. Maybe Motorola had a reason. However, This commit is conspicuously missing from the msm branch of Google's kernel and was never put in by CodeAurora either. Maybe there's a reason for this. If a user key gets negatively instantiated, an error code is cached in the payload area. A negatively instantiated key may be then be positively instantiated by updating it with valid data. However, the ->update key type method must be aware that the error code may be there. The following may be used to trigger the bug in the user key type: keyctl request2 user user "" @U keyctl add user user "a" @U which manifests itself as: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at 00000000ffffff8a IP: [<ffffffff810a376f>] __call_rcu.constprop.76+0x1f/0x280 kernel/rcu/tree.c:3046 PGD 7cc30067 PUD 0 Oops: 0002 [#1] SMP Modules linked in: CPU: 3 PID: 2644 Comm: a.out Not tainted 4.3.0+ #49 Hardware name: QEMU Standard PC (i440FX + PIIX, 1996), BIOS Bochs 01/01/2011 task: ffff88003ddea700 ti: ffff88003dd88000 task.ti: ffff88003dd88000 RIP: 0010:[<ffffffff810a376f>] [<ffffffff810a376f>] __call_rcu.constprop.76+0x1f/0x280 [<ffffffff810a376f>] __call_rcu.constprop.76+0x1f/0x280 kernel/rcu/tree.c:3046 RSP: 0018:ffff88003dd8bdb0 EFLAGS: 00010246 RAX: 00000000ffffff82 RBX: 0000000000000000 RCX: 0000000000000001 RDX: ffffffff81e3fe40 RSI: 0000000000000000 RDI: 00000000ffffff82 RBP: ffff88003dd8bde0 R08: ffff88007d2d2da0 R09: 0000000000000000 R10: 0000000000000000 R11: ffff88003e8073c0 R12: 00000000ffffff82 R13: ffff88003dd8be68 R14: ffff88007d027600 R15: ffff88003ddea700 FS: 0000000000b92880(0063) GS:ffff88007fd00000(0000) knlGS:0000000000000000 CS: 0010 DS: 0000 ES: 0000 CR0: 000000008005003b CR2: 00000000ffffff8a CR3: 000000007cc5f000 CR4: 00000000000006e0 Stack: ffff88003dd8bdf0 ffffffff81160a8a 0000000000000000 00000000ffffff82 ffff88003dd8be68 ffff88007d027600 ffff88003dd8bdf0 ffffffff810a39e5 ffff88003dd8be20 ffffffff812a31ab ffff88007d027600 ffff88007d027620 Call Trace: [<ffffffff810a39e5>] kfree_call_rcu+0x15/0x20 kernel/rcu/tree.c:3136 [<ffffffff812a31ab>] user_update+0x8b/0xb0 security/keys/user_defined.c:129 [< inline >] __key_update security/keys/key.c:730 [<ffffffff8129e5c1>] key_create_or_update+0x291/0x440 security/keys/key.c:908 [< inline >] SYSC_add_key security/keys/keyctl.c:125 [<ffffffff8129fc21>] SyS_add_key+0x101/0x1e0 security/keys/keyctl.c:60 [<ffffffff8185f617>] entry_SYSCALL_64_fastpath+0x12/0x6a arch/x86/entry/entry_64.S:185 Note the error code (-ENOKEY) in EDX. BugLink: http://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1512815 commit e81107d4c6bd098878af9796b24edc8d4a9524fd upstream. My colleague ran into a program stall on a x86_64 server, where n_tty_read() was waiting for data even if there was data in the buffer in the pty. kernel stack for the stuck process looks like below. #0 [ffff88303d107b58] __schedule at ffffffff815c4b20 #1 [ffff88303d107bd0] schedule at ffffffff815c513e #2 [ffff88303d107bf0] schedule_timeout at ffffffff815c7818 #3 [ffff88303d107ca0] wait_woken at ffffffff81096bd2 #4 [ffff88303d107ce0] n_tty_read at ffffffff8136fa23 #5 [ffff88303d107dd0] tty_read at ffffffff81368013 #6 [ffff88303d107e20] __vfs_read at ffffffff811a3704 #7 [ffff88303d107ec0] vfs_read at ffffffff811a3a57 #8 [ffff88303d107f00] sys_read at ffffffff811a4306 #9 [ffff88303d107f50] entry_SYSCALL_64_fastpath at ffffffff815c86d7 There seems to be two problems causing this issue. First, in drivers/tty/n_tty.c, __receive_buf() stores the data and updates ldata->commit_head using smp_store_release() and then checks the wait queue using waitqueue_active(). However, since there is no memory barrier, __receive_buf() could return without calling wake_up_interactive_poll(), and at the same time, n_tty_read() could start to wait in wait_woken() as in the following chart. __receive_buf() n_tty_read() ------------------------------------------------------------------------ if (waitqueue_active(&tty->read_wait)) /* Memory operations issued after the RELEASE may be completed before the RELEASE operation has completed */ add_wait_queue(&tty->read_wait, &wait); ... if (!input_available_p(tty, 0)) { smp_store_release(&ldata->commit_head, ldata->read_head); ... timeout = wait_woken(&wait, TASK_INTERRUPTIBLE, timeout); ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The second problem is that n_tty_read() also lacks a memory barrier call and could also cause __receive_buf() to return without calling wake_up_interactive_poll(), and n_tty_read() to wait in wait_woken() as in the chart below. __receive_buf() n_tty_read() ------------------------------------------------------------------------ spin_lock_irqsave(&q->lock, flags); /* from add_wait_queue() */ ... if (!input_available_p(tty, 0)) { /* Memory operations issued after the RELEASE may be completed before the RELEASE operation has completed */ smp_store_release(&ldata->commit_head, ldata->read_head); if (waitqueue_active(&tty->read_wait)) __add_wait_queue(q, wait); spin_unlock_irqrestore(&q->lock,flags); /* from add_wait_queue() */ ... timeout = wait_woken(&wait, TASK_INTERRUPTIBLE, timeout); ------------------------------------------------------------------------ There are also other places in drivers/tty/n_tty.c which have similar calls to waitqueue_active(), so instead of adding many memory barrier calls, this patch simply removes the call to waitqueue_active(), leaving just wake_up*() behind. This fixes both problems because, even though the memory access before or after the spinlocks in both wake_up*() and add_wait_queue() can sneak into the critical section, it cannot go past it and the critical section assures that they will be serialized (please see "INTER-CPU ACQUIRING BARRIER EFFECTS" in Documentation/memory-barriers.txt for a better explanation). Moreover, the resulting code is much simpler. Latency measurement using a ping-pong test over a pty doesn't show any visible performance drop. commit 9b2761cb72dc41e1948c8a5512b4efd384eda130 upstream. The maximum chunks used by the function is (SPI_AGGR_BUFFER_SIZE / WSPI_MAX_CHUNK_SIZE + 1). The original commands array had space for (SPI_AGGR_BUFFER_SIZE / WSPI_MAX_CHUNK_SIZE) commands. commit 8355b2b3082d302091506703d2e4e239f7deed7f upstream. Some gadget drivers will call usb_ep_queue() more than once before the first queue doesn't finish. However, this driver didn't handle it correctly. So, this patch fixes the behavior of some usbhs_pkt_handle using the "running" flag. Otherwise, the oops below happens if we use g_ncm driver and when the "iperf -u -c host -b 200M" is running. commit 9745e362add89432d2c951272a99b0a5fe4348a9 upstream. The register_vlan_device would invoke free_netdev directly, when register_vlan_dev failed. It would trigger the BUG_ON in free_netdev if the dev was already registered. In this case, the netdev would be freed in netdev_run_todo later. So add one condition check now. Only when dev is not registered, then free it directly. The following is the part coredump when netdev_upper_dev_link failed in register_vlan_dev. I removed the lines which are too long. The logic in __ip6_append_data() assumes that the MTU is at least large enough for the headers. A device's MTU may be adjusted after being added while sendmsg() is processing data, resulting in __ip6_append_data() seeing any MTU. For an mtu smaller than the size of the fragmentation header, the math results in a negative 'maxfraglen', which causes problems when refragmenting any previous skb in the skb_write_queue, leaving it possibly malformed. Instead sendmsg returns EINVAL when the mtu is calculated to be less than IPV6_MIN_MTU. When we try to open a file with O_TMPFILE flag, we will trigger a bug. The root cause is that in ext4_orphan_add() we check ->i_nlink == 0 and this check always fails because we set ->i_nlink = 1 in inode_init_always(). We can use the following program to trigger it: int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { int fd; fd = open(argv[1], O_TMPFILE, 0666); if (fd < 0) { perror("open "); return -1; } close(fd); return 0; } The oops message looks like this: kernel BUG at fs/ext4/namei.c:2572! invalid opcode: 0000 [#1] PREEMPT SMP DEBUG_PAGEALLOC Modules linked in: dlci bridge stp hidp cmtp kernelcapi l2tp_ppp l2tp_netlink l2tp_core sctp libcrc32c rfcomm tun fuse nfnetli nk can_raw ipt_ULOG can_bcm x25 scsi_transport_iscsi ipx p8023 p8022 appletalk phonet psnap vmw_vsock_vmci_transport af_key vmw_vmci rose vsock atm can netrom ax25 af_rxrpc ir da pppoe pppox ppp_generic slhc bluetooth nfc rfkill rds caif_socket caif crc_ccitt af_802154 llc2 llc snd_hda_codec_realtek snd_hda_intel snd_hda_codec serio_raw snd_pcm pcsp kr edac_core snd_page_alloc snd_timer snd soundcore r8169 mii sr_mod cdrom pata_atiixp radeon backlight drm_kms_helper ttm CPU: 1 PID: 1812571 Comm: trinity-child2 Not tainted 3.11.0-rc1+ #12 Hardware name: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. The root cause is that in ext4_orphan_add() we check ->i_nlink == 0 and this check always fails because we set ->i_nlink = 1 in inode_init_always(). We can use the following program to trigger it: int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { int fd; fd = open(argv[1], O_TMPFILE, 0666); if (fd < 0) { perror("open "); return -1; } close(fd); return 0; } The oops message looks like this: kernel BUG at fs/ext4/namei.c:2572! invalid opcode: 0000 [sultanqasim#1] PREEMPT SMP DEBUG_PAGEALLOC Modules linked in: dlci bridge stp hidp cmtp kernelcapi l2tp_ppp l2tp_netlink l2tp_core sctp libcrc32c rfcomm tun fuse nfnetli nk can_raw ipt_ULOG can_bcm x25 scsi_transport_iscsi ipx p8023 p8022 appletalk phonet psnap vmw_vsock_vmci_transport af_key vmw_vmci rose vsock atm can netrom ax25 af_rxrpc ir da pppoe pppox ppp_generic slhc bluetooth nfc rfkill rds caif_socket caif crc_ccitt af_802154 llc2 llc snd_hda_codec_realtek snd_hda_intel snd_hda_codec serio_raw snd_pcm pcsp kr edac_core snd_page_alloc snd_timer snd soundcore r8169 mii sr_mod cdrom pata_atiixp radeon backlight drm_kms_helper ttm CPU: 1 PID: 1812571 Comm: trinity-child2 Not tainted 3.11.0-rc1+ sultanqasim#12 Hardware name: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. commit 2a5ff07a0eb945f291e361aa6f6becca8340ba46 upstream. We keep receiving syzbot reports [1] that show that tunnels do not play the rcu/IFF_UP rules properly. At device dismantle phase, gro_cells_destroy() will be called only after a full rcu grace period is observed after IFF_UP has been cleared. This means that IFF_UP needs to be tested before queueing packets into netif_rx() or gro_cells. This patch implements the test in gro_cells_receive() because too many callers do not seem to bother enough. commit 20bb759a66be52cf4a9ddd17fddaf509e11490cd upstream. Calling 'panic()' on a kernel with CONFIG_PREEMPT=y can leave the calling CPU in an infinite loop, but with interrupts and preemption enabled. From this state, userspace can continue to be scheduled, despite the system being "dead" as far as the kernel is concerned. This is easily reproducible on arm64 when booting with "nosmp" on the command line; a couple of shell scripts print out a periodic "Ping" message whilst another triggers a crash by writing to /proc/sysrq-trigger: | sysrq: Trigger a crash | Kernel panic - not syncing: sysrq triggered crash | CPU: 0 PID: 1 Comm: init Not tainted 5.2.15 sultanqasim#1 | Hardware name: linux,dummy-virt (DT) | Call trace: | dump_backtrace+0x0/0x148 | show_stack+0x14/0x20 | dump_stack+0xa0/0xc4 | panic+0x140/0x32c | sysrq_handle_reboot+0x0/0x20 | __handle_sysrq+0x124/0x190 | write_sysrq_trigger+0x64/0x88 | proc_reg_write+0x60/0xa8 | __vfs_write+0x18/0x40 | vfs_write+0xa4/0x1b8 | ksys_write+0x64/0xf0 | __arm64_sys_write+0x14/0x20 | el0_svc_common.constprop.0+0xb0/0x168 | el0_svc_handler+0x28/0x78 | el0_svc+0x8/0xc | Kernel Offset: disabled | CPU features: 0x0002,24002004 | Memory Limit: none | ---[ end Kernel panic - not syncing: sysrq triggered crash ]--- | Ping 2! | Ping 1! | Ping 1! | Ping 2! The issue can also be triggered on x86 kernels if CONFIG_SMP=n, otherwise local interrupts are disabled in 'smp_send_stop()'. Disable preemption in 'panic()' before re-enabling interrupts. commit ea00353f36b64375518662a8ad15e39218a1f324 upstream. Laurent Pinchart reported that the Renesas R-Car H2 Lager board (r8a7790) crashes during suspend tests. Geert Uytterhoeven managed to reproduce the issue on an M2-W Koelsch board (r8a7791): It occurs when the PME scan runs, once per second. During PME scan, the PCI host bridge (rcar-pci) registers are accessed while its module clock has already been disabled, leading to the crash. One reproducer is to configure s2ram to use "s2idle" instead of "deep" suspend: # echo 0 > /sys/module/printk/parameters/console_suspend # echo s2idle > /sys/power/mem_sleep # echo mem > /sys/power/state Another reproducer is to write either "platform" or "processors" to /sys/power/pm_test. It does not (or is less likely) to happen during full system suspend ("core" or "none") because system suspend also disables timers, and thus the workqueue handling PME scans no longer runs. Geert believes the issue may still happen in the small window between disabling module clocks and disabling timers: # echo 0 > /sys/module/printk/parameters/console_suspend # echo platform > /sys/power/pm_test # Or "processors" # echo mem > /sys/power/state (Make sure CONFIG_PCI_RCAR_GEN2 and CONFIG_USB_OHCI_HCD_PCI are enabled.) Rafael Wysocki agrees that PME scans should be suspended before the host bridge registers become inaccessible. To that end, queue the task on a workqueue that gets frozen before devices suspend. Rafael notes however that as a result, some wakeup events may be missed if they are delivered via PME from a device without working IRQ (which hence must be polled) and occur after the workqueue has been frozen. If that turns out to be an issue in practice, it may be possible to solve it by calling pci_pme_list_scan() once directly from one of the host bridge's pm_ops callbacks. This patch adds the missing check and aborts the probe operation if necessary. [ Upstream commit 32d3182cd2cd29b2e7e04df7b0db350fbe11289f ] packet_sendmsg() checks tx_ring.pg_vec to decide if it must call tpacket_snd(). Problem is that the check is lockless, meaning another thread can issue a concurrent setsockopt(PACKET_TX_RING ) to flip tx_ring.pg_vec back to NULL. Given that tpacket_snd() grabs pg_vec_lock mutex, we can perform the check again to solve the race. syzbot reported : kasan: CONFIG_KASAN_INLINE enabled kasan: GPF could be caused by NULL-ptr deref or user memory access general protection fault: 0000 [sultanqasim#1] PREEMPT SMP KASAN CPU: 1 PID: 11429 Comm: syz-executor394 Not tainted 5.3.0-rc4+ #101 Hardware name: Google Google Compute Engine/Google Compute Engine, BIOS Google 01/01/2011 RIP: 0010:packet_lookup_frame+0x8d/0x270 net/packet/af_packet.c:474 Code: c1 ee 03 f7 73 0c 80 3c 0e 00 0f 85 cb 01 00 00 48 8b 0b 89 c0 4c 8d 24 c1 48 b8 00 00 00 00 00 fc ff df 4c 89 e1 48 c1 e9 03 <80> 3c 01 00 0f 85 94 01 00 00 48 8d 7b 10 4d 8b 3c 24 48 b8 00 00 RSP: 0018:ffff88809f82f7b8 EFLAGS: 00010246 RAX: dffffc0000000000 RBX: ffff8880a45c7030 RCX: 0000000000000000 RDX: 0000000000000000 RSI: 1ffff110148b8e06 RDI: ffff8880a45c703c RBP: ffff88809f82f7e8 R08: ffff888087aea200 R09: fffffbfff134ae50 R10: fffffbfff134ae4f R11: ffffffff89a5727f R12: 0000000000000000 R13: 0000000000000001 R14: ffff8880a45c6ac0 R15: 0000000000000000 FS: 00007fa04716f700(0000) GS:ffff8880ae900000(0000) knlGS:0000000000000000 CS: 0010 DS: 0000 ES: 0000 CR0: 0000000080050033 CR2: 00007fa04716edb8 CR3: 0000000091eb4000 CR4: 00000000001406e0 DR0: 0000000000000000 DR1: 0000000000000000 DR2: 0000000000000000 DR3: 0000000000000000 DR6: 00000000fffe0ff0 DR7: 0000000000000400 Call Trace: packet_current_frame net/packet/af_packet.c:487 [inline] tpacket_snd net/packet/af_packet.c:2667 [inline] packet_sendmsg+0x590/0x6250 net/packet/af_packet.c:2975 sock_sendmsg_nosec net/socket.c:637 [inline] sock_sendmsg+0xd7/0x130 net/socket.c:657 ___sys_sendmsg+0x3e2/0x920 net/socket.c:2311 __sys_sendmmsg+0x1bf/0x4d0 net/socket.c:2413 __do_sys_sendmmsg net/socket.c:2442 [inline] __se_sys_sendmmsg net/socket.c:2439 [inline] __x64_sys_sendmmsg+0x9d/0x100 net/socket.c:2439 do_syscall_64+0xfd/0x6a0 arch/x86/entry/common.c:296 entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x49/0xbe Fixes: 69e3c75 ("net: TX_RING and packet mmap") Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <edumazet@google.com> Reported-by: syzbot <syzkaller@googlegroups.com> Signed-off-by: David S. [ Upstream commit 55b40dbf0e76b4bfb9d8b3a16a0208640a9a45df ] Commit aca5139 ("netns: Fix arbitrary net_device-s corruptions on net_ns stop.") introduced a possibility to hit a BUG in case device is returning back to init_net and two following conditions are met: 1) dev->ifindex value is used in a name of another "dev%d" device in init_net. 2) dev->name is used by another device in init_net. Under real life circumstances this is hard to get. Therefore this has been present happily for over 10 years. commit d41a3effbb53b1bcea41e328d16a4d046a508381 upstream. If a request_key authentication token key gets revoked, there's a window in which request_key_auth_describe() can see it with a NULL payload - but it makes no check for this and something like the following oops may occur: BUG: Kernel NULL pointer dereference at 0x00000038 Faulting instruction address: 0xc0000000004ddf30 Oops: Kernel access of bad area, sig: 11 [sultanqasim#1] ... commit eddf3e9c7c7e4d0707c68d1bb22cc6ec8aef7d4a upstream. The following crash was observed: Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 0000000000000158 Internal error: Oops: 96000004 [sultanqasim#1] SMP pc : resend_irqs+0x68/0xb0 lr : resend_irqs+0x64/0xb0 ... Thus, the irq descriptor might be already freed before the resend tasklet is executed. resend_irqs() does not check the return value of the interrupt descriptor lookup and derefences the return value unconditionally. 1): __setup_irq irq_startup check_irq_resend // activate softirq to handle resend irq 2): irq_domain_free_irqs irq_free_descs free_desc call_rcu(&desc->rcu, delayed_free_desc) 3): __do_softirq tasklet_action resend_irqs desc = irq_to_desc(irq) desc->handle_irq(desc) // desc is NULL --> Ooops Fix this by adding a NULL pointer check in resend_irqs() before derefencing the irq descriptor. commit 277fcdb2cfee38ccdbe07e705dbd4896ba0c9930 upstream. log_buf_len_setup does not check input argument before passing it to simple_strtoull. commit 528699317dd6dc722dccc11b68800cf945109390 upstream. While output urb's snd_complete_urb() is executing, calling prepare_outbound_urb() may cause endpoint stopped before prepare_outbound_urb() returns and result in next urb submitted to stopped endpoint. usb-audio driver cannot re-use it afterwards as the urb is still hold by usb stack. This change checks EP_FLAG_RUNNING flag after prepare_outbound_urb() again to let snd_complete_urb() know the endpoint already stopped and does not submit next urb. commit 3ba3458fb9c050718b95275a3310b74415e767e2 upstream. When sending a UDPv6 message longer than MTU, account for the length of fragmentable IPv6 extension headers in skb->network_header offset. Same as we do in alloc_new_skb path in __ip6_append_data(). This ensures that later on __ip6_make_skb() will make space in headroom for fragmentable extension headers: /* move skb->data to ip header from ext header */ if (skb->data < skb_network_header(skb)) __skb_pull(skb, skb_network_offset(skb)); Prevents a splat due to skb_under_panic: skbuff: skb_under_panic: text:ffffffff8143397b len:2126 put:14 \ head:ffff880005bacf50 data:ffff880005bacf4a tail:0x48 end:0xc0 dev:lo ------------[ cut here ]------------ kernel BUG at net/core/skbuff.c:104! invalid opcode: 0000 [sultanqasim#1] KASAN CPU: 0 PID: 160 Comm: reproducer Not tainted 4.6.0-rc2 #65 [...] Call Trace: [<ffffffff813eb7b9>] skb_push+0x79/0x80 [<ffffffff8143397b>] eth_header+0x2b/0x100 [<ffffffff8141e0d0>] neigh_resolve_output+0x210/0x310 [<ffffffff814eab77>] ip6_finish_output2+0x4a7/0x7c0 [<ffffffff814efe3a>] ip6_output+0x16a/0x280 [<ffffffff815440c1>] ip6_local_out+0xb1/0xf0 [<ffffffff814f1115>] ip6_send_skb+0x45/0xd0 [<ffffffff81518836>] udp_v6_send_skb+0x246/0x5d0 [<ffffffff8151985e>] udpv6_sendmsg+0xa6e/0x1090 [...] Reported-by: Ji Jianwen <jiji@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Jakub Sitnicki <jkbs@redhat.com> Acked-by: Hannes Frederic Sowa <hannes@stressinduktion.org> Signed-off-by: David S. commit febac332a819f0e764aa4da62757ba21d18c182b upstream. Kernel crashes inside QEMU/KVM are observed: kernel BUG at kernel/time/timer.c:1154! BUG_ON(timer_pending(timer) || !timer->function) in add_timer_on(). At the same time another cpu got: general protection fault: 0000 [sultanqasim#1] SMP PTI of poinson pointer 0xdead000000000200 in: __hlist_del at include/linux/list.h:681 (inlined by) detach_timer at kernel/time/timer.c:818 (inlined by) expire_timers at kernel/time/timer.c:1355 (inlined by) __run_timers at kernel/time/timer.c:1686 (inlined by) run_timer_softirq at kernel/time/timer.c:1699 Unfortunately kernel logs are badly scrambled, stacktraces are lost. Printing the timer->function before the BUG_ON() pointed to clocksource_watchdog(). The execution of clocksource_watchdog() can race with a sequence of clocksource_stop_watchdog() .. clocksource_start_watchdog(): expire_timers() detach_timer(timer, true); timer->entry.pprev = NULL; raw_spin_unlock_irq(&base->lock); call_timer_fn clocksource_watchdog() clocksource_watchdog_kthread() or clocksource_unbind() spin_lock_irqsave(&watchdog_lock, flags); clocksource_stop_watchdog(); del_timer(&watchdog_timer); watchdog_running = 0; spin_unlock_irqrestore(&watchdog_lock, flags); spin_lock_irqsave(&watchdog_lock, flags); clocksource_start_watchdog(); add_timer_on(&watchdog_timer, ...); watchdog_running = 1; spin_unlock_irqrestore(&watchdog_lock, flags); spin_lock(&watchdog_lock); add_timer_on(&watchdog_timer, ...); BUG_ON(timer_pending(timer) || !timer->function); timer_pending() -> true BUG() I.e. inside clocksource_watchdog() watchdog_timer could be already armed. Check timer_pending() before calling add_timer_on(). This is sufficient as all operations are synchronized by watchdog_lock. commit 1b789577f655060d98d20ed0c6f9fbd469d6ba63 upstream. We get crash when the targets checkentry function tries to make use of the network namespace pointer for arptables. When the net pointer got added back in 2010, only ip/ip6/ebtables were changed to initialize it, so arptables has this set to NULL. This isn't a problem for normal arptables because no existing arptables target has a checkentry function that makes use of par->net. However, direct users of the setsockopt interface can provide any target they want as long as its registered for ARP or UNPSEC protocols. syzkaller managed to send a semi-valid arptables rule for RATEEST target which is enough to trigger NULL deref: kasan: GPF could be caused by NULL-ptr deref or user memory access general protection fault: 0000 [sultanqasim#1] PREEMPT SMP KASAN RIP: xt_rateest_tg_checkentry+0x11d/0xb40 net/netfilter/xt_RATEEST.c:109 [..] xt_check_target+0x283/0x690 net/netfilter/x_tables.c:1019 check_target net/ipv4/netfilter/arp_tables.c:399 [inline] find_check_entry net/ipv4/netfilter/arp_tables.c:422 [inline] translate_table+0x1005/0x1d70 net/ipv4/netfilter/arp_tables.c:572 do_replace net/ipv4/netfilter/arp_tables.c:977 [inline] do_arpt_set_ctl+0x310/0x640 net/ipv4/netfilter/arp_tables.c:1456 Fixes: add6746 ("netfilter: add struct net * to target parameters") Reported-by: syzbot+d7358a458d8a81aee898@syzkaller.appspotmail.com Signed-off-by: Florian Westphal <fw@strlen.de> Acked-by: Cong Wang <xiyou.wangcong@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Pablo Neira Ayuso <pablo@netfilter.org> [bwh: Backported to 3.16: adjust context] Signed-off-by: Ben Hutchings <ben@decadent.org.uk>

commit 212e7f56605ef9688d0846db60c6c6ec06544095 upstream. An earlier commit (1b789577f655060d98d20e, "netfilter: arp_tables: init netns pointer in xt_tgchk_param struct") fixed missing net initialization for arptables, but turns out it was incomplete. These cubic tcp window scaling algorithm's fixes made the news recently. I'm not sure if it's important enough to merge them. I'll leave for you to decide. -sh
