The warning was introduced in 2009 (commit 4bf1fa5 ([ARM] 5613/1: implement CALLER_ADDRESSx)). The only "problem" here is that CALLER_ADDRESSx for x > 1 returns NULL which doesn't do much harm. The drawback of implementing a fix (i.e. use unwind tables to implement CALLER_ADDRESSx) is that much of the unwinder code would need to be marked as not traceable. First, in drivers/tty/n_tty.c, __receive_buf() stores the data and updates ldata->commit_head using smp_store_release() and then checks the wait queue using waitqueue_active(). This fixes both problems because, even though the memory access before or after the spinlocks in both wake_up*() and add_wait_queue() can sneak into the critical section, it cannot go past it and the critical section assures that they will be serialized (please see "INTER-CPU ACQUIRING BARRIER EFFECTS" in Documentation/memory-barriers.txt for a better explanation). Moreover, the resulting code is much simpler. Latency measurement using a ping-pong test over a pty doesn't show any visible performance drop. We can end up allocating a new compression stream with GFP_KERNEL from within the IO path, which may result is nested (recursive) IO operations. That can introduce problems if the IO path in question is a reclaimer, holding some locks that will deadlock nested IOs. Allocate streams and working memory using GFP_NOIO flag, forbidding recursive IO and FS operations. When we reach ocfs2_acl_set_mode.#181 and do trans, the inode cluster lock is not held in EX mode (it should be). How this could have happended? We are the lock master, were holding lock EX and have released it in ocfs2_setattr.#1247. Note that there are no holders of this lock at this point. Another node needs the lock in PR, and we downconvert from EX to PR. So the inode lock is PR when do the trans in ocfs2_acl_set_mode.#184. The trans stays in core (not flushed to disc). Now another node want the lock in EX, downconvert thread gets kicked (the one that tripped assert abovt), finds an unflushed trans but the lock is not EX (it is PR). If the lock was at EX, it would have flushed the trans ocfs2_ci_checkpointed -> ocfs2_start_checkpoint before downconverting (to NULL) for the request. ocfs2_setattr must not drop inode lock ex in this code path. If it does, takes it again before the trans, say in ocfs2_set_acl, another cluster node can get in between, execute another setattr, overwriting the one in progress on this node, resulting in a mode acl size combo that is a mix of the two. commit d5afb6f9b6bb2c57bd0c05e76e12489dc0d037d9 upstream. The code where sk_clone() came from created a new socket and locked it, but then, on the error path didn't unlock it. This problem stayed there for a long while, till b0691c8 ("net: Unlock sock before calling sk_free()") fixed it, but unfortunately the callers of sk_clone() (now sk_clone_locked()) were not audited and the one in dccp_create_openreq_child() remained. When we reach ocfs2_acl_set_mode.#181 and do trans, the inode cluster lock is not held in EX mode (it should be). How this could have happended? We are the lock master, were holding lock EX and have released it in ocfs2_setattr.#1247. Note that there are no holders of this lock at this point. Another node needs the lock in PR, and we downconvert from EX to PR. So the inode lock is PR when do the trans in ocfs2_acl_set_mode.#184. The trans stays in core (not flushed to disc). Now another node want the lock in EX, downconvert thread gets kicked (the one that tripped assert abovt), finds an unflushed trans but the lock is not EX (it is PR). If the lock was at EX, it would have flushed the trans ocfs2_ci_checkpointed -> ocfs2_start_checkpoint before downconverting (to NULL) for the request. ocfs2_setattr must not drop inode lock ex in this code path. If it does, takes it again before the trans, say in ocfs2_set_acl, another cluster node can get in between, execute another setattr, overwriting the one in progress on this node, resulting in a mode acl size combo that is a mix of the two. This problem stayed there for a long while, till b0691c8 ("net: Unlock sock before calling sk_free()") fixed it, but unfortunately the callers of sk_clone() (now sk_clone_locked()) were not audited and the one in dccp_create_openreq_child() remained. When we try to open a file with O_TMPFILE flag, we will trigger a bug. The root cause is that in ext4_orphan_add() we check ->i_nlink == 0 and this check always fails because we set ->i_nlink = 1 in inode_init_always(). commit 6bd288569b50bc89fa5513031086746968f585cb upstream. Debug exception handlers may be called for exceptions generated both by user and kernel code. In many cases, this is checked explicitly, but in other cases things either happen to work by happy accident or they go slightly wrong. For example, executing 'brk sultanqasim#4' from userspace will enter the kprobes code and be ignored, but the instruction will be retried forever in userspace instead of delivering a SIGTRAP. Fix this issue in the most stable-friendly fashion by simply adding explicit checks of the triggering exception level to all of our debug exception handlers.
