You've probably heard of Cassandra, and thought about using it, but learning another query language is a lot of overhead and hosting adds even more. In this workshop, you're going to create a serverless Astra instance, giving you a Cassandra backend with a generous allotment of traffic and data - no credit card required. Even better, that Astra instance gives you free API access to your database, using REST, GraphQL or a JSON-based Document API.
We'll give a quick overview of Cassandra, Astra and Stargate, then we'll get going - creating an instance, storing your credentials, exploring the various APIs, and then we'll dive into using our Node.js library to create a simple application.
This is a fairly simple setup on your local system, so we'll include info for that, but we'll also provide a GitPod environment, which we'll use for the workshop.
It doesn't matter if you join our workshop live or you prefer to do at your own pace, we have you covered. In this repository, you'll find everything you need for this workshop.
