Spells that want to attach an FX to the aim vob sometimes have trouble finding it. When that happens the FX gets stuck on the caster instead. This seems to be related to the properties of the aim vob and how it is added to the world.

Details:

  • After a few times casting the spells or reloading a saved game the issue does not seem to occur anymore.
  • This seems to have nothing to do with the movement of the aim vob, as it also happens if the aim vob clamped after insertion.
  • If instead of using the aim vob a focussed npc is used as target vob it works.
  • If using an npc the way the aim vob is used (updating the position), the issue persists.
  • If inserting the aim vob as an npc, the issue persists.

Ideas:

  • Use a different FX (SPL_Light and SPL_SuckEnergy) to see if it is related to the way the FX is defined.
  • Give the aim vob a focus name and actively focus it.

Resolved by changing the aim vob to an oCItem and attaching any effect manually. This is a little disappointing but very stable.
