Welcome to the Paleo Interest Group Wiki!

If you're new to the group and want to know more about our purpose check out the Paleo Interest Group Charter and the Paleo Interest Group README. Also send me an email at denne.reed@gmail.com to add yourself to the groups mailing list.

The Paleo Interest Group GitHub page is focused on documenting common use case examples for how to apply TDWG metadata standards to paleobiology. The group focuses on two existing standards, Darwin Core and the Access to Biological Collections Data Extended For Geosciences (ABCDEFG).

The GitHub site is organized around use cases. Each use case gets a separate markup document on the Code tab. I have started the first use case as a partial example of the documentation. What we need now is for the Paleo community to submit, comment and review the use cases!

Questions and comments that arise in the use case are added as Issues to be resolved. Issues may apply to more than one use case.

The Projects tab tracks the progress of each use case, the issues related to each and the documents that need to be produced for each.

This Wiki provides general updates and information about the group's progress.

How to Contribute:

  1. Propose a use case. Is there a situation in paleobiology for which you'd like to use metadata standards and for which you'd like some guidance? You can contribute use cases by sending a pull request to modify the source code of the documentation repository. Or if you're unfamiliar with pull requests, just send me an email at denne.reed@gmail.com and I'll be happy to review and post the use case.
  2. Comment on any of the issues. If you have suggestion or ideas on how metadata standards should be applied under each use case add your thoughts to the threaded discussion for each issue.
  3. Attend the TDWG conference working group meetings. The next meeting will be held in Ottawa, CA October 1-6.
