Hello!

I enjoyed using the online version and the app, but I am having problems with the desktop app. I am currently stuck on this loading screen.

blue-green background with gray nx console logo centered; contained in a mac osx dark themed window

I even forgot about it and had it open for 30 minutes to no avail. I tried a couple variations, such as running it without any other programs open.

This is some information I got out of gdb:
theproblem.txt

Some kind of problem involving MetalKit?

Any help is much appreciated.

Update: Cloning the repo and building platform/macOS SDL does not seem to provide different results.

Some more sys info:
Running macOS Mojave Version 10.14.2;MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015); 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5; 8 GB 1867 MHz DDR3; Macintosh HD; Intel Iris Graphics 6100 1536 MB; C02TM1HUFVH3

Hi,

it's not the loading screen, it's the "insert cartridge" screen, so you have to drag a program file into the window :) It's explained in the manual's introduction.

Anyway, you are not the first being stuck on this screen, so I'll think about adding a text or something to the screen.

I figured this out just before reading this. I feel like an idiot :^)

I should have read this section in the manual
Find the examples in the folder "programs". Open the LowRes NX application and drag and drop any .nx file into its window. You can also select LowRes NX as default application for .nx files, so programs can be started simply by double clicking them.

I actually found out this was the design when I pressed "ESC" and a "No Program" message came up. Might as well leave this up so future people can learn from my idiocy ...

Don't worry ;)
I'll try to find a way to show a message which doesn't destroy the splash screen (I actually like that there is almost no text). I may show it after some seconds, but then people may think they have to wait these seconds before they can start a program. Or I show it when you click or press any button, but this may be misinterpreted in the same way...

Maybe you could do a message that appears when the application is opened for the first time?

I added this message whenever any key or button is pressed on the boot screen (core v0.14):
