Slow start on device

I have noticed that when running on an actual device, the app starts up slowly. I think this is caused by checking for a network signal before we do anything else.

I will investigate this.

Well, I can't reproduce this when not running in the debugger, so perhaps the slowness was caused by the debugger loading symbols or something. Closing unless we can reproduce this later.
