<p> not breaking the line

Hey guys I'm starting to code and I was thought that the function <p> would break the line and create a paragraph, however when I did insert the <p> function it doesn't break. Like this:
<header>
<h2><strong> bold text</strong></h2>
<p>text</p>
</header>

it prints like this

I don't really understand why it happens if someone can help with this I would appreciate

found the error, I was using a stylesheet that changed it.
