Extra camera

Your disco won't be able to fly if the CHUCK camera is broken. But, you can add a second camera, if you want a second perspective (see your UAV itself while it's flying) or for better quality video.

FPV camera

FPV cameras for DIY drones:

  • small and light
  • lower quality video
  • can run off your existing power supply
  • not all have their own recording option
  • and can feed video to a video transmitter, giving its own wireless signal directly to ground, so you can watch more than one stream!
  • can't overlay (On Screen Display) telemetry like on traditional flight computers (but if someone can measure the I or C, please let us know!)

Often, these cams are installed on the tail, on the wing tip or facing backwards so you can see the Disco while it's flying. Useful for getting a feel of what the drone is doing.

Cameras

  • Runcam Split 3

Examples

"GoPro"

  • Higher quality image (often higher than the Disco itself)
  • Relatively heavy and big ** Often have their own battery ** GoPro Session is relatively light and small, but isn't sold anymore
  • most also have a video out, so you can transmit live video to ground just like a specialised FPV cam can

Often mounted just facing forward, or on bottom (behind the battery) for aerial photography/mapping.

Cameras

  • GoPro Hero Session 3 & 4
  • Runcam 5, Runcam 5 orange

Gymbal cameras

  • Really smooth flight videos
  • relatively heigh in weight (but they're becomming smaller!

Examples

360

  • Camera able to shoot all around
  • Some are better at stabilising the panorama, some wobble with the Disco
  • 180 degrees camera's: unknown?

Always installed on the canopy (and often also lost because too heavy!). Viewer can choose to look at the horizon, props or flapping wings.
