Tried to reproduce this by putting an artificial delay in the synapse initial sync code and everything seems to work fine. Matthew has reported this still failing at times, so will wait for more info from him before closing this.

Apparently this is only happening on apple watch (with a large account), so de-prioritizing this until I have more info.
