Mouse clicks print gibberish in the terminal

I can't reproduce this consistently but I think it occasionally happens after I've used tmux over an SSH session. Every left click prints a random looking string on the terminal as can be seen in the attached file. If I open a new tab the problem does not happen in the new tab.

In iTerm2 this is fixed by disabling (in app menu) Session -> Terminal State -> Mouse Reporting. Perhaps there's a similar setting in Hyper.
I feel this may get triggered sometimes after certain ssh session timeout. Have yet to pin it down to the exact conditions.
