i cannot find any documentation referance the bot starting, and setting warp to range, is this not possible?

Yes, you are right. Customizing the warp-to distance is not possible within 45402edb6d62a87b.
Someone else had requested such a feature earlier. Given the apparent popularity, I made a new bot to support adjusting the distance via the standard bot-settings interface.

You can run the new bot from https://reactor.botlab.org/catalog/862bc811ded4d22b

Use the warp-to-anomaly-distance setting to set the distance. (The default is still 'Within 0 m')
