The best alternative is your own solution for specific tasks without excess code. HTML5 videos are not hard nowadays.

Another one nice option: do not load heavy videos "just for fun".

Html5, while easy, seems to have issues with seamless looping in most browsers. Solutions to this don't seem to be very clear cut.
