[css-borders-4] corner-shape naming #6521
Comments
I suppose (though the primary problem with that property isn't naming, it’s lack of implementor interest…) |
I do remember there being some initial push back. But I thought the issue was it just wasn't ready for implementation yet. I know it's existed in spec form for a long time but the only place I see it is on css-backgrounds-4 with the big "not ready for implementation" banner: https://drafts.csswg.org/css-backgrounds-4/ |
So in an effort to see if implementer interest exists now I've opened bugs in both Chrome and Firefox: Chrome: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=1242936&q=corner%20shape&can=2 |
I have thoughts. To me, Also, putting aside that we didn't really name For instance, if you wanted solid corners and no lines between the corner shapes, you would do this:
Maybe we should have |

Random thoughts mostly on naming:

Agreed.
That would be nice indeed, though then we'd need to define how
There is precedent of this pattern (singular longhands, plural shorthand) with multicol:
I think that actually makes sense. Right now, many use cases for corner shape are essentially hacks that are trying to use it to set element shape. We do have #6997 for |
While doing some theoretical poking around at recreating some of these Shapes of CSS (https://css-tricks.com/the-shapes-of-css/) with
corner-shape
I found myself wanting to call itcorner-style
instead. Presumably to line up with the existingborder-style
property. Also was wondering about the opportunity to "fix" the "border-radius should have been corner-radius." from the Incomplete List of Mistakes in the Design of CSS https://wiki.csswg.org/ideas/mistakes
The pairing of
corner-radius
andcorner-style
just reads better to me thatcorner-shape
andborder-radius
the later 2 don't really feel like they go together. Maybeborder-radius
andcorner-radius
could be aliased by browsers?https://drafts.csswg.org/css-backgrounds-4/#corners-shorthand
