For my sense as technician the direction of the vertical writing mode goes to the wrong direction.
The norm for turning text is always by 90 degrees to left. So the turned text should start on the bottom and go up.

The direction of text on things like book spines varies from place to place (all the book spines on my shelf have text that reads down the spine, ie. right rotated characters). If you look at CJK & Mongolian text you will only see left rotation as a very rare case – and then this tends to be for single, unbroken lines (because a span of embedded, say, Latin text in a vertical line is much easier to manage across line breaks if the text runs down the page).
