I would suggest to split the first two into separate issues and elaborate on what exactly those modes should entail. The rest seems fairly straight forward. |
It worked for me (perhaps it requires access to the repository), so go ahead and elaborate on the details. |

This gives an opportunity for people to try it out and maybe improve it. It can be removed again before 1.18 if deemed unsuitable at that time.
