  1. Provide the option to disable desktop notifications. It would be good if, after disabling, they didn't appear for some time. Disabling could be done with an X button.

You can already click on “Change Preference” and simply chose to disallow them. The box on the screenshot only appears when the user has not made a decision at all yet.
