When trying to run the example available here, I get the following message from knitr (just executing from within Rstudio GUI).

Invalid Parameter - /annual_review_files
Quitting from lines 16-31 (annual_review.Rmd)
Error in (knit_engines$get(options$engine))(options) :
  problems with `convert`; probably not installed?
Calls: <Anonymous> ... process_group.block -> call_block -> block_exec -> in_dir -> <Anonymous>
Execution halted

I get the same message for any chunk in which I set engine='tikz'. Looks like I am missing some sort of installation but I can't determine what I am missing.

You need to install ImageMagick, as indicated in the first paragraph of the example. If you are on Windows, you probably need to put ImageMagick's bin path to the PATH variable.

Thanks, yihui. I definitely have ImageMagick installed and it is in my PATH.

Since this is likely a problem with the settings on my machine (as opposed to a bug with knitr per se) I am going to move this discussion to stack
