It seems like this is a pretty common problem with ignition coils out there. I have the extra, so I'm going to try to reproduce the issue later in the week.

Changed the ignition coil, didn't help.

Changed the capacitor and removed the resistor. I'm going to install a fuel pressure regulator tomorrow morning.

Added a fuel pressure regulator, replaced the fuel pump and replumbed the fuel system. Works great.
