The Zeek LT is in the process of formalizing our relationship with Corelight. Corelight is currently the only source of financing for the Zeek project; they employ all full-time developers for Zeek, all merge-masters for Zeek, pay most of the infrastructure that keeps the project running on a day-to-day basis, and are also providing financing for most of the Zeek events – like Zeek Week in the previous years.
Corelight is taking its responsibilities to the project very seriously and is working together with the LT to more formally map out which parts of the project they are supporting in which way. The goal of this process is to make it clearer for everyone how Zeek is financed, who is responsible for which parts of the wellbeing of the Zeek project, and who takes on which responsibilities.
Please note that this process aims to formalize the current state and make it clear who contributes to Zeek. The project operations will continue running in the same way as today.
During this LT meeting, the LT mostly talked about how to best define the roles of the different entities. As part of this process, we are going to create a list of all responsibilities that exist in the project. During our next meeting, we are going to map where operational, development, and community responsibilities will fall between project volunteers and Corelight.
