The line that got italicized is the following, between the asterisks:
The special characters |-@*+ can be indexed from column 54 and \"*\"
I'd really like to use the markdown, but I'd also like to prevent what happened in this line from happening, too.

It appears that DefaultHelpGenerator doesn't perform any escaping of Markdown sensitive characters.
