The MKS modules provide varying functions to accomplish different game goals. The following pages group information about the various parts based on the functions they provide.

The various functions include:

  • Logistics - MKS introduces a means for moving resources within and between bases without them necessarily being attached to each other.
  • Habitation - USI-LS introduces a game system where kerbals need to stretch their legs after awhile and, unless they have a lot of creature comforts, eventually need to return to Kerbin.
  • Resources - MKS introduces several new resources through the integrated Community Resources Pack (CRP) that are used to produce key items rather than shipping them in.
  • Life Support - MKS extends USI-LS to provide parts that produce Supplies as well as reducing the consumption rates (called recyclers and purifiers).
  • Med Bay & Colony Supplies - To support the Habitation system, medical bays are provided to help kerbals that have stayed too long "in the black". Colony Supplies also provide a way for kerbals to stay out longer without going back to Kerbin.
  • Mining - There are several ways to retrieve resources in addition to the stock drills. MKS provides its own expandable drills and sifters that work with Ore as well as its own resources.
  • Manufacturing - in order to convert the mined resources, you need to use the MKS refiners, smelters, and crushers.
  • Efficiency- Certain modules can improve the efficiency of other modules, e.g.Ranger Greenhouse and Duna Agriculture Module.)
  • Ground Construction - Ground Construction has replaced Extraplanaetary Launchpads for building ships and bases on Kerbin and deploying them off-world.
  • Extraplanetary Launchpads (EL) - Extraplanetry Launchpads is a separate mod, but parts of it are encompassed in MKS. However, a different resource chain is used, and installing MKS will change how EL works.
  • Konstruction- The Konstruction parts introduce some new interfaces and design strategies of their own. There are also sample Konstruction vehicles available.
