This discussion tracks work to add Bitaxe Bonanza support to Mujina, using the same host-controlled approach as Bitaxe Gamma. It complements the work to add BZM2 ASIC support.
Current status
BZM2 support for Bonanza and BIRDS is in progress across my forks. The local Mujina implementation covers ASIC discovery, job dispatch, share validation, power control, and health monitoring.
The published branches do not yet include all local changes.
RP2040 ASIC transport and board controls; currently protocol 1.0
Bonanza also requires firmware for its RP2040 bridge. The goal is to use the same bridge firmware with ESP-Miner and Bonanza RHAP-D for each supported board revision.
Remaining work
Bonanza raw firmware → RHAP-D: Port Bonanza USB control, ASIC data transport, and board functions to RHAP-D.
Bonanza RHAP-D firmware: Add 1004 ESP32 control of reset, trip, power, and fans.
Bonanza bridge firmware: Add a 1004 target with continuous ASIC forwarding, diagnostics, and recovery. Remove board controls and leases from this target.
Mujina: Add Bonanza’s 9-bit transport encoding to the shared driver.
Mujina: Add Bonanza RHAP-D discovery, startup, monitoring, and shutdown.
BIRDS raw firmware: Verify compatibility with the shared Mujina driver. Keep RHAP-D migration as a separate task.
Complete stack: Test mining and fault recovery, then publish matching branches, firmware images, and setup instructions.
I have started local changes while waiting for the latest 1004 revision of Bitaxe Bonanza. Once the board arrives, I can validate and publish the firmware, complete the Mujina integration, and use the board to help test and review #117.
