Electrum client (thin client) downloads the blockchain headers from electrumx nodes and performs Simple Payment Verification. Electrum clients are not verifying blocks since they don't have a full copy of the blockchain. This protocol allows low resource usage and faster workflow.
Electrum client is an HD wallet that generates mnemonic seed as a private key. These seeds do not require regular backups, enables simpler administration.
