Why USWM?

Whats are the advantages?

It fixes a lot of things, including permissions, suspend and closing programs correctly when logging out.

It is also the recommended way to use Hyprland according to the wiki.

I set uwsm here because it works even if the session isn't uwsm-managed, but people that actually use uwsm will want their programs to run with it.

Are apps launched with the built-in app launcher also launched as UWSM units like the Hyprland wiki suggests?

If I'm reading launcher.py right, it looks like they are launched using app.launch() where app is a DesktopApp instance from fabric.utils. I looked into the Fabric API reference but there was no description for what exactly launch() does.

Since the shell is already launched using UWSM, this may be a non-issue, but I figured I would ask.

(BTW, this shell is absolutely beautiful. I am new to Linux as of a week ago and I'm in awe at the creativity of the community. This project is quite inspiring!)

Yup, everything that's launched from the shell's launcher will be covered by UWSM (AFAIK).

I did a bit of extra research and found a shell script in the UWSM repo that uses a menu (such as dmenu, wofi, etc) to list apps/services managed by UWSM.

When launching apps through the terminal prefixed with uwsm app -- , they appear on this menu, but unfortunately these same apps launched from the built-in Ax-Shell launcher do not.

I may tinker with the python to see if I can find a workaround and I'm sure it ultimately doesn't matter, but I figured I would let you know in case you wanted to investigate yourself!

Okay I switched to uwsm i personally feel its less snappier

It is less snappier sadly, but it's worth it.

You can always just edit the config anyway. :)
