The
strbuilt-in type has a method just for the same kind of munging asTrimBeginningAndEndingSlashes:str.strip('/'). It also has methods for removing leading (lstrip) or ending (rstrip) characters.Furthermore, it's a more performant and idiomatic approach than the current one.
