Presentation Feedback

Neuro Seminar

  • Don't use script
  • Graphics are good
  • Explain figures more
  • Have funding agencies on acknowledgments slide
  • Don't mumble and speak too softly
  • Analogy between intelligence and exercise was good
  • Explain justification for age bins (based on literature)
  • Perfectly timed talk, nice summary at end, excellent use of visuals and transition phrases

OTU Prosem

  • Don't apologize
  • Clarify age bins
    • Age is a continuous -> Creating groups -> Saying they're distinct
    • Why those bins? Cite Baum paper
    • By using age bins, we can't tease out development
    • Distinct age models -> Distinct brain patterns
  • Why can't we predict TD? why can't we predict bin 3?
  • Maybe the bias comes from the way HBN collects the data (asked for parents that suspect have issues with their child)
  • State what the red and blue connections are
  • Redo FC glass brain so nodes colored according to Power atlas
  • Go over HBN in more detail (how long ago, how it was collected)
  • Slide on why movies (naturalistic)
  • Move literature slides to before the gap slide
  • Describe everything about a figure (E.g. Functional connectivity, red=pos, blue=neg)
  • Don't say we picked Ridge because it's "better", say we pick Ridge bc more computationally efficient
  • Say we picked Ridge after presenting both (so not cherry picking)
  • For CP, don't mention "moving down WISC"
  • Lump all of the reasons together (why intelligence, why adhd, why development)
    • Don't put pursuit of knowledge for its own sake
  • remove perm testing slide
