help.vaccinateca.com

help.vaccinateca.com is the home for internal webapps. Today, that consists of Scooby and Velma.

What does Scooby do?

Scooby is the web frontend for phone banking and web banking. Scooby requests calls from VIAL, displays a script of questions callers use to ask sites about vaccines, and then submits the results back to VIAL. This document is a human readable mapping of script answers to VIAL details.

What does Velma do?

Velma is the web frontend for manually matching and merging vaccination locations in VIAL.

For matching, Velma randomly picks unmatched source locations, but can be passed query parameters to be more targeted.

  • source_q=<name> to search locations by name.
  • source_state=<state_code> to search locations by state code such as CA
  • source_name=<source_name> to search locations by source_name, e.g. vaccinespotter_org.

For merging, Velma pulls tasks from the VIAL merge queue, but can be passed query parameters to be more targeted.

  • task_q=<name> to search tasks by location name.
  • task_state=<state_code> to search tasks by state code such as CA

How to begin local development

Running the linter

The linter - Prettier - runs on every PR automatically. If you'd like to run it locally, run npm install once to set up npm and then npm run lint:fix to run the linter.

Run locally

You can build and run the app locally via ./script/server. Local development works against staging VIAL, so it's safe to try out new things without worrying about writing to production.

If you want to test the app against a local API instance, you can set the CUSTOM_API_TARGET environment variable: export CUSTOM_API_TARGET=http://0.0.0.0:3000/api && script/server

Using Docker

Alternatively, you can run the app via docker, which ensures a clean environment: ./script/docker-server
